Dennis Rainey: Do you remember the old Blue Laws of yesteryear? They were laws that restricted business activities on Sunday. I believe our modern culture is ignoring … the Sabbath.
Over the last eight to ten years, Barbara and I have become more aware of our need to regard the Sabbath as a day where we need to rest. We try to make Sundays different. We take a nap. We read a book. We usually don't work in the yard. Now, we don't always do a great job at it, but the standard is there, and we've seen qualities emerge in our lives. Qualities like clearer thinking, relaxed spirits, and the knowledge that our lives are well-pleasing to God.
One final thought. When you choose to rest instead of work on the Sabbath, you're saying to God, "I trust You; I rest in knowing that You will provide for my family. We are dependent on You."
I'm Dennis Rainey, and that's REAL FamilyLife. Date: 10/12/2007
